Deciding to Work From Home – Handling Naysayers
October 24, 2010 Leave a comment
Well-meaning people can have negative things to say at times. The decision to work at home is one of those decisions that invites discouraging comments. But with determination, you can continue in your quest and make your business work. Here are some of the things that help me:
1. Remembering how I made my decision
For some reason, people might think you just woke up one morning and said “I’m gonna quit my job and work from home“. If you have enough money and you did that, all the more reason for people not to have anything to say. If you’re like me and have to stay at a job outside the home until your home-based business picks up, then you’ve obviously thought this out and again, nobody should have anything to say about it.
2. Ignoring naysayers
Some people just can’t be reasoned with. You could pull out a detailed outline showing your timeline for the next 5 years and they’d still tell you that working from a home is a bad idea. Those types of people, I have to ignore, even if they’re close friends or family members. I realize that it’s their opinion that I need to let them work out internally. Ignoring instead of disputing can allow you to keep your close relationships throughout the process of building your business. And if it’s a person whose opinion isn’t important to you anyway, ignoring them saves time and energy. Read more of this post
